You Get What You Pay For…

I recently had a mom call inquiring about pricing for a Baby’s Premiere 3D/4D Ultrasound. After giving her the rundown of all of our packages she let me know that because she was on a tight budget and her mom and grandma were paying for it together she had to shop around to get the best price. I said no problem and let her know that at Baby’s Premiere we will beat any local competitor’s price by $10.

A few hours later, I received a call back from the same mom who said, “I called around and you have the best prices.”  She let me know that she couldn’t believe one place she called was offering a similar 20 minute session for $150.00 versus our price of $75.00. She said she told the person who answered the phone about the big price difference and that person’s answer to her was, “You get what you pay for.”

But she is absolutely right; you get what you pay for. You see, at Baby’s Premiere, we are an eight year old established business; you may notice that our local competitors have opened within the last year. This means we have an 8 year long referral base of former clients, doctors and other businesses in the prenatal arena. In our studio, we have seen well over 10,000 families. We have a modest office which has served its purpose for us through the years and if our walls could talk they would tell you of all the smiles, laughter, tears of joy, and screams of excitement that happened here. Families meet here to view their miracles, children get to see their new baby brothers or sisters here for the first time.

At Baby’s Premiere, the focus is on mom and baby, not the furnishings. We didn’t spend a lot of money on making a fancy studio or paying a high rent to put pretty pictures on a website. Because of these things, we don’t have to charge astronomical prices to make families happy and give them the amazing experience of seeing their baby in 3D/4D.

So the owner of the other place is right – you get what you pay for. And at Baby’s Premiere, you are not paying for our start-up costs, our exorbitant rent or Pottery Barn furnishings. You are paying simply for the opportunity of an amazing bonding experience between the life that grows within you and the ability to share it with those you love.

“But, I didn’t do it with my first…”

I know what you’re thinking. Take it from me, three kids in, and I try my hardest to be sure that whatever I did for the first, I did for the second.  With just 14 months between the first two and the fact that we were perpetually in what I call “survival of the fittest” mode, it was a daunting yet do-able endeavor.  Now with number three, it’s getting to be a bit more difficult so I’m starting to choose my battles.

We are starting to turn the corner – #1 is 6 years old, #2 is two weeks from turning 5 and #3 is 18 months. The two older ones are slightly more self sufficient leaving me slightly more time….

IMG_8676 copy-2You Are Not Cheating Your First Pregnancy

One thing I will tell you is I hear a lot of expectant parents say that they don’t want to do a 3D/4D ultrasound with pregnancy #2, 3, 4, etc. because they didn’t do it with #1 or “the others.”  I want to let these moms and dads know that you are NOT cheating the pregnancies that came before! You are giving these siblings an invaluable experience.  You are giving them a chance to bond with the growing baby in mommy’s belly.  You are giving them the gift of being able to experience the miracle of life.

An Experience Your Older Children Will Cherish

When I was pregnant with my third, I took my older two who were 3 and 4 at the time and could barely sit still for more than a minute to my 3D/4D Ultrasound at Baby’s Premiere 3D/4D Ultrasound Studio and I will never forget the stillness, the quietness, the awe that was in that room in those moments as my two babies sat and saw their baby brother to be in all his glory sleeping and swimming on that big television screen.  The “aha moment” of them realizing that THIS is what is going on in mommy’s belly.  You see in their eyes that these children are all connected in some primal way. They know each other, although they have not yet physically met and I have to say that besides giving birth, seeing the wonderment in their eyes as they caught their first glimpse of their baby brother has to be one of the most grounding and amazing experiences.

So moms and dads, your children won’t care that maybe you didn’t do a 3D/4D ultrasound when you were pregnant with them, or maybe you did……but they will remember that you let them in and shared this amazing experience with them.

Who is the Ultrasound Technician Performing my 3D/4D Ultrasound?

If you are thinking about coming to Baby’s Premiere for a 3D ultrasound, you may find yourself wondering about our ultrasound technician team and whether or not they are as qualified as those you would see in a hospital or doctor setting. Though we do not do diagnostic scans, we are professionally owned and operated and believe in using only trained obstetrical American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certified ultrasound technicians. That means you can rest assured that the sonographer you see during your baby bonding experience is certified in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

What Kind of Ultrasound Education Do They Receive?

Just like the ultrasound technicians you see in your doctor’s office or the hospital, our sonographers receive extensive training in medical sonography. They have each studied human physiology and anatomy and received hands-on training with the technology itself. By doing so, our ultrasound technicians are able to learn thingSonogram-Technicians like positioning techniques and how to get the most quality images possible for you and your family.

Our ultrasound technicians are professionally certified and have passed the sonographer exam given by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). While attending school, they usually complete clinical internships where they receive significant on-the-job training from current professionals in the field. Many take continuing education classes upon graduation and while working so they can ensure they are knowledgeable and up-to-date as a medical sonographer.

Did My Sonographer Choose to Work with Pregnancies?

Finally, sonographers must choose a specialization before completing their degree. That means that each of our ultrasound technicians is there because they want to be and because they have a passion for obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound. They are excited to share in the amazing miracle growing inside of you and even more excited to help you start the bonding experience before your baby is even here.

If you have any questions that we haven’t answered here, please don’t hesitate to call us at (201) 880-5006 or comment below. We would love to hear from you and look forward to scheduling your 3D ultrasound today!

The Popularity of Gender Reveal Parties: Hosting a Party at Baby’s Premiere

The popularity of gender reveal parties has grown tremendously over the past couple of years. In 2008, the first baby reveal party was uploaded to YouTube and in 2009 and 2010, only a handful followed (Source). However, between November 2011 and April 2012 over 1,800 gender reveal videos were shared on the popular video website.

Why have gender reveal parties gained so much popularity in recent years?

For one thing, couples say they are a great way to incorporate the entire family into the event. Since today’s “share all” generation would be posting the information to Facebook or Instagram, why not throw a party and make it really memorable? Others say it is just a nice way to share the experience with those you love and not just some stranger in a cold medical facility.

Gender Reveal Party Ideas

There are tons of gender reveal party ideas on various websites, including the ever popular Pinterest. Some of the most popular ones include giving the baby’s gender to a close friend or family member and having he or she fill a box with blue or pink balloons. The expectant parents then open the box together and find out their baby’s sex, along with everyone else at the party, based off of the color of the balloons. Another popular gender reveal is having your 3D ultrasound technician call a specified bakery with the gender of your baby so that a cake, cupcakes or even cookies can be made with a special pink or blue filling to let you know whether you are expecting a daughter or son. Many Etsy shops have even popped up selling various decorations or knickknacks to use for the big gender reveal. Everything from invitations to napkins to lollipops can be bought to help make the day that much more special.

If You Want Results, The Best Time for a 3D/4D Ultrasound is…

In our experience, we find the best time for a 3D/4D Ultrasound to be during weeks 26-32 of your pregnancy. Babies Are Amazing Humans Growing Inside You!

By Week 26 your baby has grown a bit more meat on his or her bones, enabling our Ultrasound Technician to help make out facial features pretty clearly as well. Are those daddy’s lips? Mommy’s nose? The images seen during this time can help you see which if its parents your baby looks like at that moment. Seeing those details of your unborn child’s face is such an amazing gift, one that you will surely remember for the rest of your life.

Can a 3D Ultrasound Reduce Postpartum Depression?

Ultrasound technology has given women a safe way to view their unborn child for over 30 years now. Women today are even luckier than they were 20 years ago though because now there is 3D and 4D technology available that allows the mother (and family) to really put a face to their unborn child. The imaging technology available today is so detailed that you can see if your baby is yawning, smiling, sucking his or her thumb, the definition of the baby’s nose, and so much more!

Can This Technology Reduce Levels of Postpartum Depression?

Consequently, with all of the incredible details that can be seen through 3D and 4D ultrasounds many are wondering if this ultrasound technology has the ability to reduce postpartum depression. In fact, a few studies have been completed and others are currently under way to try and prove just that. In 2001, a study was completed in Australia that compared the effects of an ultrasound on the mother’s bond with her baby. Those women who were given a 3D ultrasound opposed to a 2D ultrasound seemed to have a much greater connection with their baby after birth. The study found that 70% of mothers receiving 3D ultrasounds felt they knew their baby right after birth because of the images they had previously seen verses 56% of mothers who received 2D ultrasounds (http://www.miracleviewultrasound.com/ultrasound-safety.html). That study also found that 82% of mothers who received a 3D ultrasound formed a mental image of their unborn child after a screening verses only 39% of those who received a 2D ultrasound.

Does a 3D Ultrasound Eliminate Postpartum Depression?

So does that mean if you get a 3D ultrasound while pregnant you won’t suffer from postpartum depression? Not necessarily. Postpartum depression happens for many different reasons and it can become present while pregnant or at any time within the first year after giving birth. Many more studies need to be completed before we can truly know whether or not a 3D ultrasound affects postpartum depression. What we do know though is that having a 3D ultrasound enables you to truly connect with your baby long before he or she is born. Particularly, if your pregnancy was a surprise or you don’t have a lot of support, seeing your baby’s face and heartbeat on the screen may help you have a clearer picture of the person you are carrying inside you and make you feel better about becoming a mother.

No matter your reason for having a 3D ultrasound, we would love to be a part of your journey. So call or email us today and we will schedule your appointment so you can truly start bonding with your baby!

Why Should You Consider a 3D Ultrasound?

Being pregnant is such an amazing gift and with the availability of 3D Ultrasounds, you can make your pregnancy even more memorable. A 3D Ultrasound is a great way to see your unborn child up close and personal. Long gone are the days of wonder and anticipation of giving birth in order to determine the gender of your baby and who he or she looks like. With today’s technology you can see your baby boy or girl before he or she even exits your womb. Does he have his daddy’s nose? Mommy’s lips? Well, you can actually see all those things, and more, when viewing your baby through a 3D Ultrasound.

3D Ultrasounds really show just how far technology has come. Even as recent as 10 years ago you probably were not given an ultrasound unless there was a cause for concern during your pregnancy. Nowadays, however, women are given ultrasounds quite frequently during a pregnancy in order to see how the baby is growing, make sure the estimated due date is correct and, if the couple chooses to, learn the gender of their unborn baby. Having the ability to see your baby and know how he or she is doing really helps to ease your mind as a parent and makes you feel that much more connected. This is especially true for the fathers because they don’t get to experience the pregnancy the same way the mother does.

When you see your baby for the first time, it truly is a magical experience and one that everyone looks forward to after finding out they are pregnant. 3D Ultrasounds are even more special than the 2D Ultrasounds that most OBGYN’s continue to use because they really allow you to see the details of what your baby looks like. They also allow you to hear your baby’s heartbeat and really encourage parents because they help build up the excitement they are already feeling that much more. By seeing little Johnny or Sally’s face, parents are really able to build that connection because they know there actually is a little person growing inside there. 3D Ultrasounds just make the experience that much more intimate and real. Plus, they are fun because once your baby is born, you can compare his or her photo to the ultrasound pictures you had taken while in utero and see how much they really did show! Isn’t technology amazing?
